Case Study: Sustainable Revenue

Over a period of a year, we went through our Three Phases of Social Enterprise Development with Cambridge Shelter to launch In our Backyard.

In our Backyard: Professional Garden & Yard Services

Through an initial private foundation grant, Cambridge Shelter hired us to Research, Brand, and Launch a sustainable social enterprise that will 1) employ shelter graduates, 2) provide personal development opportunities for the shelter graduates and 3) provide undesignated revenue for Cambridge Shelter programming.

Over a period of a year, we developed In our Backyard, offering professional garden and yard services to those in the Waterloo Region while providing part and full time employment for their shelter clients. We secured over $200,000 in additional grant funding which allowed us to hire a full-time coordinator and make capital investments into the enterprise.
