My favourite things

“My name is Susie and I like to keep connected with all of my friends who are very special to me. I have really missed seeing them all in person during this pandemic.”

“I also like to dance to music, watch my TV programs and movies, and research my favourite characters online.”

“My favourite part of the day is the afternoon because that’s when my favourite programs are on TV. I like General Hospital, Young and Restless, and Days of our Lives.”

"I want my postcard to make other people happy, to make them smile, because it has been so lonely and stressful during the pandemic."

Something I feel grateful for

“I am grateful for my family who help me so much, especially my mom and my dad and my support workers. I am also grateful for all my friends and spending time with them.”

“And I’m also grateful for my pet cat, Noel, that became ill and had to be put down this year. She was a good companion who brought me so much joy. I miss Noel and I hope that someday soon, I can get another pet cat.”

"When I started thinking about my postcard, a song that I learned in school came to mind. The chorus goes, 'Friends are like flowers, beautiful flowers. Friends are like flowers, in the garden of life'."

I think it is important to brighten people’s days this summer

“I think it’s important because everyone has felt so lonely and isolated during COVID, not being able to visit family and friends.”

“This year, I realized how important it is for everyone in the community to have family and friends that they can visit and share happy times together. Everyone needs to feel loved by others and to know that others care for them.”

“It’s very important for us to reach out to help people feel happy, to share with them things they need, and to share positive messages with them and bring smiles to their faces and brighten their spirits.”

About my Postcard

“I am most proud of the emoji happy faces because I want the people who receive my postcard to smile and feel really happy.”

You are Beautiful Postcard

“My favourite part of the project was seeing how Maya could draw all of the ideas that I had in my mind, that we were talking about, and make them so beautiful.”

“I am very proud that I came up with the emoji idea all by myself because the happy faces do make the flowers look like my beautiful friends.”

"One of my favourite symbols is a heart shape, with an arrow drawn through the middle. I have always liked drawing and colouring heart shapes and wearing heart rings and earrings."

"I learned that I have lots of great ideas, and with the help of The Community Company, my ideas can look so amazing on a postcard."

To people who receive my postcard

“You are a beautiful person, who has special gifts and talents, like a beautiful flower. I hope my postcard makes you feel special and loved and makes you smile.”

“Community means all people living together to help one another in times of need, like sharing, caring, loving, showing kindness, supporting and help others who need our help.”

“Friends are precious in their own special way. Sending you bouquets of happiness today!”
